The K4 Peadot — known in Austria as Fleckenteppich (“carpet of spots”) — was introduced in 1957 for the Österreichs Bundesheer as Austria rebuilt its military identity in the post-occupation era. Engineered for the alpine and forested terrain of Central Europe, its five-colour painterly dot pattern disrupted the human silhouette with an almost impressionistic quality unlike any other Cold War camouflage design. Austrian military snipers kept using it informally long after the Bundesheer officially retired it in 1978.
