As the Spanish Republic fought with Franco's nationalists the only nation willing to provide military materials was Stalin's Soviet Union, when aircraft arrived the Aeronautica Miltar would often apply field expediant camouflage patterns, unique to individual aircraft or squadrons. Represented here with the paint scheme born by Katiuska n.2, a Tupolev ANT-40 (SB) bomber, which would see service on both the Republican and, after being captured, Nationalist side
