In H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds, HMS Thunderchild was the last act of defiance — a torpedo ram that turned back toward the Martian advance and bought time for civilian ships to clear the Essex coast. She brought down a tripod before she went under. No survivors. The ship's badge presented here follows the Royal Navy convention: diamond-shaped crest, rope border, crown above, ship's name on the scroll.
